Daily Animal Sketch – Lemurs and Arctic Fox Pup
August 27th, 2010 | by LindsayStudies of a Ring-tailed Lemur and an arctic fox pup.
Source: Lemur referenced from Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo video.
Studies of Arctic foxes and red foxes. It’s a lot easier to find video reference of red foxes than it is arctic foxes, probably because they’re more abundant and much likelier to occur in areas inhabited by people, so most of these sketches are of the red variety.
While there are numerous differences between the red fox and the arctic fox, they serve as a decent substitute for studying fox motion. Plus, having much less fur, it’s easier to make out the body structure on red foxes. Arctic foxes look like white puffballs in their winter coats.
More studies of red foxes and arctic foxes, referenced from videos. The first page looks at motion and posture, while the second page focuses on muzzles.
Why is this page in black-and-white?
Short Answer: While I’m preparing for The Last of the Polar Bears’ big relaunch, I thought it would be fun to share the raw pencil pages for the next part of the story. As soon as new color pages are ready for viewing, I’ll return to the regular format.
If you’re new here, you might want to click the ‘first’ button on the navigation bar above to jump back to the beginning of the comic and see how the pages normally look with coloring and finishing touches.
Long Answer: I’m currently in the process of storyboarding the comic in its entirety, in preparation for a big early 2012 relaunch, and a return to regular weekly updates.
As part of storyboarding the comic, I’ve reworked the first chapter. There’s a couple of important reasons for this, but for now I’ll just say that due to the changes, I won’t be able to use the pages I created last year and will be making a fresh start (though I will be able to salvage quite a few panels from them).
Leading up to the big relaunch, I have about 20 pages I penciled last year, but never posted. Since I won’t be able to use them in their current form for the relaunch, I thought it would be fun to share them in their raw pencil form…enjoy! ![]()
